The Dark Side of the Moon

Imagine being alone at a cemetery. It’s midnight, pitch dark and the only light you have is the full moon in the sky. But everywhere you look, all you see is death.

Look again.

On Monday, May 19th at 10:11 pm ET, we have the second full moon in two months in the ultimate sign of endings – Scorpio. Yes, this is the crucial death and rebirth lunation of the year. And it’s filled with a most intense dynamic in the sky.

The moon is at the final degree of Scorpio. When a planet is at the 29th degree it signifies deep karmic endings so you can be sure that this will be a symbol of final death in whatever house the full moon falls in your chart.

But there’s also a pretty thick skull around this full moon. It’s almost like it has to be “death on your own terms”. A grand cross is part of the cosmic scenery on this evening. The moon opposed Venus in Taurus. Venus in Taurus says “I want beautiful, material things. I want physical security. I want love that lasts.” Moon in Scorpio says “I need to go beyond matter and delve into spirit. I know there can never be security in this physical world. I need to look beyond”. Taurus and Scorpio is the power axis of the zodiac. When these two signs are involved there is obsessive, compulsive love. There’s the temptation to control through love or money.

The moon is square Neptune in Aquarius. Neptune wants to dissolve all of the preconceived ideologies humanity has ever known. Neptune in Aquarius is idealism at its finest. But the moon in Scorpio is cold, cruel reality. It hurts to be human says moon in Scorpio. Neptune in Aquarius remains dumbfounded. It cannot relate to the connection Scorpio has to the dark side of the human condition.

The moon is also square Saturn, in the early degree of Virgo. Saturn in Virgo wants us to work hard and serve others. Saturn will insist that there is a karmic debt now for the universe to take care of the details and honor one’s responsibility. The moon in Scorpio is suspicious. She questions the intentions of humble service. After all, is there really such a thing?

This configuration will tell you more about the cosmic story behind your personal ending and rebirth. It illuminates the supporting energy around your current situation. Without looking at your chart I already know the following:

-          The ending will be final – there’s no going back

-          You’re coming to grips with the dichotomy of material security versus the knowledge that this might just be a false sense of safety

-          You realize that you might not be in control of this situation after all

-          You’ve recognized that there are some people in humanity who are simply cruel. Despite wanting to see the best in them, sometimes people are dark

-          You’re working for something important that you believe will help others. But you also have a hidden agenda. What is your deeper motivation for serving others?

Yes, there is a lot for us to “let go” of now. And while it’s not easy, it is the only way to heal.

The Scorpio full moon is like ridding yourself of poison from your body. There has been a deeply ingrained betrayal or sense of hurt having to do with the matters ruled by the house this full moon is in. And a 29 degree lunation is the ultimate in tough love because this full moon wants you to get on with it already. Yes, it hurts. Yes, you were wronged. Yes, you were left in the pit of darkness.

But you know what my friends? It’s time to build a bridge and get over it.

After all, on the other side of darkness, there is light. Maybe we, as human beings can only appreciate the light after we’ve been trapped in darkness for a bit.

And that brings me back to the creepy cemetery. If I were alone in that spot I’m not so sure I’d feel “death” all around me. What happens in the space between death and rebirth?

Peace.

I wish all of you a peaceful transition as you let go of the pain in your life and embrace the deeper meaning behind the dark side of this full moon. After all, it is only through stillness that any of us can embrace our power.
